Last Friday night, the Gold Coast music industry gathered in celebration of Gold Coast music for the iconic annual music awards.

I gladly volunteered my time as a judge for the 3rd consecutive year, which was no minor task with over 900 nominations to review. The judging process is thorough and very rigorous.

Massive congratulations to this year’s very deserving winners!

Alt Fiction took out Song of the Year with ‘Why Are You Still Here’, a brilliant feel-good, earworm of a tune.

With his recent meteoric rise to fame, it’s not surprising that Budjerah took out Artist of the Year and Live Act of the Year. I was fortunate to conduct a mentoring session with Budjerah’s family before he rocketed into the stratosphere. They are lovely people and very supportive of his career.

Saint Lane was awarded Release of the Year for ‘i thought my name was cursed’. If you haven’t heard this album yet, then get amongst it because it’s a slice of genius.

Producer of the Year went to the hardworking and talented Jared Adlam.

Video of the Year to Geniie Boy for Better, which won the judges over with its humour and narrative.

Venue of the Year went to elsewhere on their 20 year anniversary. This venue has been delivering the goods for the Gold Coast for so long and deserves to be honoured for their enourmous contribution to culture on the Gold Coast.

Lyric took out People’s Choice and Gold Coast Music Prize so big things coming for this young lady.

Omar Hanlon was awarded Musician of the Year and Visual Creative of the Year went to Jared Hinze.

Breakout Artist of the Year went to Girl and Girl after their bumper year signing to Sub Pop Records.

Congratulations to all the finalists, to the organisers and the sponsors, and everyone involved in this fantastic event.

It’s amazing to have watched the Gold Coast music scene evolve so dramatically over the past 20 years and I am grateful to still be playing some small but important part in it.

Thanks a million for these cool plaques the judges receive to credit the hard work and volunteering of our time. It’s much appreciated!

Looking forward to next year already.
